Personal information collection and cookies

Bryter does not collect and use personal information using this site. This privacy policy only applies to this website (http://www.bryter-research.co.uk) and not to any that may be linked from it. When you link to other websites you should read their own privacy policies.

 

PRIVACY AND BEING A BRYTER RESPONDENT

What information do we collect about you?

We collect information about you when you participate in a research project for us. This could be via a survey, an interview or another methodology. We may also collect information about you when we are talking to you about potentially being involved in a research project, prior to your involvement being confirmed. We may also collect financial information required to send an incentive payment to you. We will not ask you for more personal information than is necessary and aim to keep requests for sensitive data to a minimum.

 

How will we use the information about you?

We use the information we collect from you to address specific research issues, often for external clients. We operate to the highest industry standards and your invitation to take part should contain all the information you need on the purpose of the research, the degree to which you can expect to be anonymous, how the data will be collected and any issues around confidentiality and incentive payments. Your consent should be explicitly obtained as part of this process. Note that we operate within the Market Research Society and BHBIA Codes of Conduct, as well as being compliant with UK Data Protection Laws.

 

PRIVACY AND BRYTER’S OPT-IN RESPONDENT LISTS

What information do we collect about you?

We collect information about you when you opt-in to be contacted by us for research purposes. Sometimes this occurs at the end of a survey or interview we have conducted.

 

How will we use the information about you?

We will use to contact you about other research projects we think may be of interest to you. We don’t want to contact people who aren’t appropriate, so the more information you give us, the more precisely we can target projects to your interests. We won’t share your information with companies outside of Bryter or use your details for sales or marketing purposes.

 

PRIVACY AND BEING A CLIENT OR BUSINESS CONTACT

What information do we collect about you?

We collect information about clients and other business contacts in a variety of ways:

  • when you contact us to ask us about our services
    • when we attend conferences, face to face or virtual meetings
    • using public sources such as LinkedIn or institutional webpages

We do not collect more personal information than is necessary.

 

How will we use the information about you?
We use the information we collect from you to allow us to contact you when we’re working together, or if we’re not, to occasionally contact you regarding white papers, published research, syndicated research projects, new services, examples of projects in your sector or just to keep in touch. We will endeavour to ensure that we only send you information about things that will really be of interest to you.

 

YOUR RIGHTS

Access to your information and correction of data

Whatever your contact with us, you have the right to request a copy of the information that we hold about you. If you would like a copy of some or all of your personal information, please email or write to us at the address located at the start of this policy. You may ask us to correct or remove information you think is inaccurate. Any changes you have requested may take up to 28 days before they take effect, so you may receive communication within this period. If you would like to access the data we hold on you, again please email or write to us. We will reply in full within 1 month. If we need more time we will let you know.

Please leave contact details on any correspondence sent to us. We will contact you to know it has been received, where the 1-month time frame will start.

 

Withdrawing consent and objections to processing

You have the right to withdraw consent for us to have your data and the right to object to it being processed in any particular way. If you wish to do this, please email or phone us.
Please note that in accordance with the law around data protection, we aim to anonymize data as soon as possible. If we have already anonymized your responses, it may not be possible for us to give you a copy of the data you have submitted, or to correct, remove or withdraw it.

 

Your right to lodge a complaint

If you would like to complain about how your data has been treated by us please contact our Data Protection Officer, Jolene Imber, at the address above. To take your complaint further, contact our Managing Director, Sebastian Martin by email (seb.martin@bryter-uk.com).

Under GDPR, you also have a right to lodge a complaint with the supervisory authority in your state of residence, place of work or where the alleged breach of GDPR occurred. In the UK this is the ICO.

 

Research with children

We recognise the need to provide additional privacy protections with respect to personal information we may collect from children. Occasionally we run market research projects which involve collecting personal data from child participants. When collecting personal information from children we take additional steps to protect children’s privacy, including:

  • Notifying parents about our information practices with regard to personal data about children, including the types of personal information we will collect, the uses to which we may put that information, and whether and with whom we may share that information
  • In accordance with applicable law, obtaining consent from parents for the collection of personal information from their children
  • Limiting our collection of personal information from children to no more than is reasonably necessary to participate in the market research study
  • Giving parents the ability to request access to personal information we have collected from their children and the ability to request that the personal information be changed or deleted.


KEEPING YOUR DATA SAFE

We adopt appropriate data collection, storage and processing practices and security measures to protect against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure or destruction of your personal or transactional information stored on our website and systems. Retention of your data

We will keep your data no longer than is necessary. For participants in market research activities, we aim to keep personal data no longer than 6 months from the end of project. In some cases, it may be necessary to retain personal data for longer, for example if an adverse event is disclosed during an interview. Should we need to keep your personal information for longer, this will be specified at recruitment. Please contact the Data Protection Officer for further details of the data retention period.

 

International data transfers

Given that our business operates across the EU and the USA, the data that we collect from you may be transferred to, and stored at, a destination outside the European Economic Area (“EEA”). It may also be processed by our staff or staff at one of our suppliers operating outside the EEA. By submitting your personal data, you agree to this transfer, storing or processing.

We will take all appropriate and proportionate steps necessary to secure your data and make sure it is treated in accordance with this privacy policy. We ensure that our third-party contractors and service providers follow similar standards of security and confidentiality.

We will do our best to protect your personal data by using technical measures like encryption. Once we have received your information, we will use strict procedures and security measures to protect your data from unauthorised access or disclosure.

 

Third parties

With the exceptions below, Bryter does not share, sell, rent, or trade personally identifiable information with third parties for their promotional purposes.

However, we may need to share your information with our agents or sub-contractors, for example, companies we use to recruit participants for research projects or individual interviewers acting on a freelance basis. When this is the case, for these purposes, the agent or sub-contractor in question will be obligated to use that personal information in accordance with the terms of this privacy statement.

In addition to the disclosures reasonably necessary for the purposes identified above, Bryter may disclose your personal information to the extent that it is required to do so by law, in connection with any legal proceedings or prospective legal proceedings, and in order to establish, exercise or defend its legal rights.
